Creating your Dream Kitchen

I know it sounds cliche, but it is said, that the kitchen is the heart of the home. That has never been more true than than we see in today’s open floor-plans. It is the first place most guests gravitate towards. Where we begin and often where we end our day. No single room has more effect on how we view our homes and our lives. It should be a place that inspires conversation and just makes us smile.
A well designed space needs to function for the users above all else. I love designing kitchens because this is the space that is used daily by all of the occupants. It also has the biggest impact on daily living. A poorly designed kitchen, or worse yet, an ugly kitchen, is not a desirable place to hang out or entertain in.
What I call the “cookie cutter kitchen” is not always a horrible thing but it looks like everyone else’s! It may function alright but it doesn't really reflect the personality of the homeowner. All in all, it works okay but it's not the most inspiring place to be. There is good news about cookie cutter kitchens though! Often times, they can be easily infused with some personality to create a space you will be inspired to create and entertain in.

I love working with the entire family on kitchens, collecting ideas and wish list items from everyone. The modern kitchen really serves as the “command center” of the home. It is usually the centerpiece of the home and has an impact on all of the spaces that are adjacent to its location. Truly custom kitchens are not just full of the latest and greatest features and appliances, but rather they should be carefully curated to reflect the way the users live.
This is all part of the process of getting to know my clients, and why the designer-client relationship is an important part of the process. Most anyone with a basic skill set can design a reasonably functional kitchen, that part is not rocket science. Its done everyday through big box stores and production builders. Yes, it works. Yes, its new. But is it everything you dreamed of? Ummm, probably not.
